During my first semester back in school, I chose to take a Persuasive Speaking class (COMM 3605W) that was a requirement for the Masters of Education, English program. My first intention was to practice the speaking skills that would be needed for the classroom, which was one outcome, but I also improved my knowledge of speech and presentation organization. It was a smaller than expected class - just seven students is unique at UMN - so we had ample opportunity to practice, listen to feedback, and revise.
We each focused on one topic throughout the semester, delivering three speeches and writing two papers. My focus was Technological Unemployment.
